I started Geordie Intelligence as a response to what I was seeing both in the corporate world around Data Analytics and big data where correlation and causation were becoming muddled to say the least. The final straw for me though was the Covid-19 Pandemic. I was working for a company at the time so was heavily involved in their response to it, seeing the disparity between the John’s Hopkins Data, the news stories and the public and corporate responses it was clear that Data Literacy was lacking. I was also reminded of a phrase from my youth that shockingly no one else seems to know – it’s become a recurring theme that I have to spend just as long explaining the phrase as I do the influence it has on me and what my companies are doing.
“As above so below” – Emerald Tablet 9th Century Hermetic Script
What I noticed was that the discussions and arguments were the same in the board room as in the break room and that misunderstandings or even a simple lack of understanding of the meanings and implications of data. Back at school and onward into University I was always told to evaluate the source and unpick the reasoning behind it. That was lacking, something was happening and causing educated people to be unable to evaluate the source of data, that is when the true implications of Bias became clear. Geordie Intelligence was set up to be the “bloke down the pub” the font of all knowledge in all personal circles as well all knowing… after all no PhD can top “What some bloke down the pub says”. As an organisation focused on individuals it was clear that I needed to have something focused on businesses. After all, “As above so below” requires an above and a below. Geordie Consulting gives businesses the opportunity to leverage my decades of experience in Enterprise Process Design, Development and Reporting into their business.
Getting the most out of the business data assets that your company has is challenging, but rarely as expensive as is often thought. My time delivering solutions to FTSE 100’s and Fortune 500’s alike means I can break down the processes you have already and work out what you are already collecting today to maximise the analytics value you can extract from that; as well as being the honest voice that will help you evaluate if a new process will solve the challenges you face, or if the low-cost minor tweak to get 80+% is the more appropriate step.
My passion for Data Analytics is fuelled by my love of life and learning in general. That dovetails so well with the Microsoft Analytics platform. Embedding the principles of excellence in Analysis within your business is what is often referred to as improving your “Data Culture”. This has major benefits reaching much further than just those involved in analytics. Remember when everyone knows that what they are doing, it advances the whole and as we feel actively involved performance improves.
