I participated in the Edinburgh Marathon with a close friend on Sunday the 26th. As we ran through the miles (and there are plenty of them in a marathon) I thought about what had transformed my life.
In 2016, I did the Wall, a 69-mile ultramarathon from Carlisle to Newcastle. Let me get this out of the way first – Yes, I did it because 69 Dude! At the start line in Carlisle Castle’s grounds, I was impressed by the warm reception I got from other “real” runners. I was familiar with a more corporate culture where weaknesses were exploited.
69 miles and some missing toenails later, I crossed the finish line as a very different person. Many runners supported me along the way, and I hope I helped many runners too. The next day, as I lay on the sofa at home in agony, I realised that my motivation was not in personal achievement but in getting the team to the finish line.
One could easily attribute my view then to a specific company, but the reality is that was how business had been shown to me up until that moment. It wasn’t a single company or role; it was the impression I had received early on and that had persisted. It required those hours of suffering on the sofa watching rubbish after the Wall to make me discover who I was and what drove me.
Running has always been my way of coping; I do my thinking when I’m running in the local parks of Newcastle and often use that time to figure out the problems of the day. When I got the chance in 2020 to start my own business and do what I had been doing for over ten years, I seized the opportunity.
Geordie Consulting is the outcome of the first 20 years or so of my career. A career that has spanned different sectors and businesses of different sizes, as well as Internal and B2B Consulting, but also with my passion for helping everyone succeed means we are building a consultancy that can support you and your company not only today but also in the future. A team of experts who are constantly striving to improve their skills and knowledge.
One of the advantages of consultancies is that we have a broader perspective than a business has from its own point of view. Organisations should always welcome the opportunity to consult a consultancy. Geordie Consulting offers you our UK-based team of specialists.
We are particularly eager to help more North-East businesses succeed. We are ready to offer your business not just consultancy support, but also the opportunity to use us to help build your Internal Centre of Excellence. This concept is seen by us and Microsoft as central to success in Data and Analytics for any business, but just setting one up from scratch can be a significant hurdle for any organisation. We can take that burden and work to support your internal teams in setting clear disengagement milestones as we support their upskilling journey and the establishment of business engagement (Super Users) communities.
